Social Worker - HUD VASH Case Manager

The incumbent will work closely with the VA medical center's other homeless programs, residential and community care programs and domiciliary programs, to ensure that coordination between these entities is facilitated and Veterans' direct care, referral, and follow up is contiguous and based on a continuum of services. At the GS-11 level, the incumbent must have experiences that demonstrate the possession of advanced practice, skills and judgment, as well as a valid license for social work practice. Duties:
1) Conducts psychosocial assessments to determine the needs of Veterans and family members. Demonstrates an ability to work with a wide variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diversified backgrounds. Possesses basic knowledge of human development and behavior (physical and psychological) and the differential influences of the environment, society and culture. 2) Works with Veterans and families who are experiencing basic emotional, medical, and/or social problems utilizing individual, group, and family counseling skills. Assesses the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and their family members. 3) Formulates and implements a treatment plan. Identifies the Veteran's problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and the assistance needed. Provides counseling and or psychotherapy services to individuals, groups and families. Social Workers must practice within the scope of their license or certification. 4) Possesses basic knowledge of psychosocial treatment modalities. Implements treatment modalities in working with individuals, families, and groups to achieve treatment goals. This requires judgment and skill in utilizing supportive, problem solving, or crisis intervention techniques. 5) Uses knowledge of community resources to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services. Coordinates services. 6) Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Veterans, staff, and representatives of community agencies. 7) Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with people from varied backgrounds. 8) Possesses working knowledge and skill in the use of word processing, data management, and other computer software application. Ability to learn and utilize the software programs in use by the VHA. 9) May have basic knowledge of Veterans' benefits and services relating to special programs, service connected compensation and non-service connected pension. Facilitates referrals based upon Veterans' needs and eligibility. 10) May serve on committees, councils, workgroups, and/or task forces. 11) May serve as a liaison to community agencies and may network with agency representatives. 12) Obtains and/or participates in continuing education. 13) May provide consultation services to other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance and treatment. At the GS-11 level, the incumbent may serve as a field instructor for social work graduate students who are completing VHA field placements. 14) Responsible for maintaining the government vehicle in accordance maintenance standards and for snow removal, when necessary. 15) Performs other related duties, as assigned. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website. a license is required at the GS-11 Full Performance Level Grade Determinations:
GS-11 Social Worker (Full Performance Level) (a) Experience, Education and Licensure. Promotion to the GS-11 full performance level requires completion of a minimum of 1 year of post-MSW degree experience in the field of health care social work (VA or non-VA experience) and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. NOTE:
For appointment licensure or certification at this level please refer to paragraph 2c. OR ,In addition to meeting basic requirements, a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the required 1 year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
