Qualifications:
Familiarity with drinking water regulations.
Ability to read and understand engineering plans, specifications, and engineering reports related to drinking water.
Ability to prioritize work and effectively manage multiple projects and programmatic tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to communicate effectively, including public speaking, with diverse stakeholders such as consulting engineers, local health department officials, other state agencies and members of the public.
Ability to work independently to complete assigned project tasks.
Duties Description This position is needed to implement the environmental health programs that affect the hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors to the Jefferson and Lewis County areas.
The candidate performs duties in the water supply program including plan reviews, water supply inspections, cooling tower compliance and emergency response.
This position is needed to ensure that water supply inspections are conducted as required, that water sample test results are reviewed and triaged in a timely manner, and that engineering plans are reviewed quickly and efficiently.
Additional Comments Permanent, full-time appointment.
Depending on the qualifications of the candidate, the position may be filled at the Engineer Trainee level, which is equated to Grade 18, or the Assistant Engineer (Environmental), Grade 20, level.
Candidates appointed to the Engineer Trainee level will be required to obtain their Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate within two years to maintain employment and be advanced to the Assistant Engineer (Environmental), Grade 20, level.
This position involves travel which includes locations not served by public transportation (30%).
