Engineer Trainee/Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation)

The incumbent will be assigned to the Permits Unit in Region 7 Traffic Safety & Mobility. Under supervision of the Regional Permit Coordinator, job duties may include:
Assist in review, and coordination of reviews by others, for engineering plans for proposed work within they NYS Highway Right-of-Way; perform field reviews of applications submitted by developers, utility companies, municipalities, etc. for anyone needing a Highway Work Permit to perform work on any part of the state highway system; conduct, or coordinate, all necessary HCS and Synchro/Sim Traffic analyses and reviews of traffic impact studies submitted for Highway Work Permits; liaise with Main Office for routing of Special Hauling permit loads and for any oversized load restrictions for Region 7 highways and bridges; cross training with other Traffic units will be expected. Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Salary Range:
From $61270 to $86140 Annually
Minimum Qualification
To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service law. NOTE:
Engineering Traineeship Program:
As an Engineer Trainee, you will serve a 24-month traineeship that leads to Assistant Engineer, Grade 20. To advance to Assistance Engineer, you must have obtained proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and successfully completed the requirements of the traineeship to the satisfaction of the appointing authority. At the discretion of the appointing authority, early advancement to Assistant Engineer is possible if you have obtained your FE and have successfully completed twelve months of the traineeship. It is your responsibility to notify the appointing authority's personnel office upon obtaining proof of passing the FE. You may receive an increase in salary upon obtaining your FE. Information about this increase will be provided by the appointing authority.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
