Senior Engineering Technician/Engineering Technician Trainee
An Engineering Technician Trainee (ET) and a Senior Engineering Technician (SET) can be assigned to work in field assignments on construction projects and in the Technical Services Unit. An Engineering Technician Trainee and a Senior Engineering Technician on field assignment assists in the performance of civil engineering work and provides engineering support services to engineers by inspecting construction projects, participating in field survey work, collecting and analyzing engineering data and reviewing contracts and specifications. Assignment in the Technical Services Unit could include supplier and producer plant inspection and various materials related support activities to ensure that designs and materials used in a project meet the specified quality requirements. Overnight stay, night work and weekend work may be required for field assignments. At the time of appointment and continuously thereafter, possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State is required or the ability to meet the travel requirements of the position must otherwise be demonstrated. Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

From $35298 to $59542 Annually
Minimum Qualification
To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position. Minimum Qualifications are as follows:
Engineering Technician Trainee, NS=Grade 8:
1. One year of experience assisting in engineering, engineering technology, engineering management technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, electronics, electronics technology, landscape design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying; and graduation from high school or possession of an equivalent diploma; or 2. 18 semester college credit hours in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics; 3. Graduation from a high school technical education program in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics or electronics. Note:
Upon successful completion of the 52-week traineeship candidates will be automatically advanced to the Senior Engineering Technician, SG-13. Senior Engineering Technician, Grade 13:
1. Two years of experience assisting in engineering, engineering technology, engineering management technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, electronics, electronics technology, landscape design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying; and graduation from high school or possession of an equivalent diploma; or 2. Associate's degree in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics. Substitution:
a certificate in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics or electronics may substitute for one year of the experience; or 36 semester college credit hours in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture or landscape design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics or electronics technology may substitute for experience at the rate of 18 semester credit hours equaling one year of experience.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
